12V Volt Pre-Wired 5mm LED Clear High Brightness Lights Various Colors Constant Works from 6V to 12V Pack of 1 5 or 10

These are 5mm diameter LEDs with 20cm wire leads with a resistor for twelve Volt operation fitted into the leads, available in packs of 1, 5, or 10. Nominal current at 12V is 20mA per LED. The lit pictures are taken using a 12V battery pack comprising eight AA cells. One LED will run for about 130 hours on Duracell or similar good quality AA alkaline cells. Ten LEDs will run for more than ten hours on such a battery pack. The violet type will show up day-glo fluorescent items and markers but not special banknote or postage stamp inks.

The brightness is still good on a 9V supply and still pretty good at 6V. Current consumption is reduced to 70mA for the ten LEDs shown at 6V, so this arrangement would run for more than 24 hours on a four cell AA alkaline battery pack.

If using a power supply it needs to be a regulated type. Nominally 12V train set transformers and old battery chargers providing rectified a.c. at a peak voltage higher than 12V will kill the LEDs.
