Centre Click Detent Balance Equalizer Pot, Splined Shaft Linear Potentiometer B

This is one item of single gang, linear, carbon track potentiometer which has a gentle mechanical click when in the centre position. The high pack quantity options are cheaper per item. Typically this is used where positioning in the centre position has some importance, like the centre position in left-right balance pan controls or the 0dB point in frequency equalisers. The rotation angle is 300 degrees.

These are new items and come with a nut and a washer for mounting on a front panel. The splined shaft is 6mm diameter. The mounting hole required is 7mm diameter. The connection pins will allow either PCB mounting or soldered wire connections. The turning part of the shaft is a minimum of 12mm length. This may be a slightly longer 16mm on some values. The threaded part of the shaft is 6mm length on all values. The "B" prefix before the track resistance value denotes a linear track taper. The max power rating is 0.2W.

You will sometimes find these used as balance controls in stereo amplifiers despite being a mono pot. The secret is to ground the wiper and use it in the pot-down part of an operational amplifer feedback section in each channel, or if it's transistors in the 1960's, you can ground the wiper and use the pot as the emitter degeneration resistor setting the gain in both the left and right voltage amplifier stages, like in the Pye 1005 stereo record player. Clever.
