3mm Miniature Grain Of Wheat Light Bulb 6V 16mA 0.1 Watt VDR Pack Of 5
This is an unused miniature lamp supplied in quantities of 5. They run at full brightness at 6.3V at which voltage they take just 16mA. There is still a dull glow at 2V. The glass diameter is 3mm by 6mm long. These could be useful in several situations.
* In modelmaking where the traditional colour of a tungsten filament lamp is desired, rather than the bluish light obtained from white LEDs. This is especially pronounced when running at less than full power. These bulbs also provide illumination all round which is difficult to obtain with a single LED, due their natural one-sided nature and lens focussed packaging.
* In 6V a.c. applications where LEDs would flicker and suffer excess reverse voltage. Maybe this would be useful in model railways.
* As a light dependent resistor driver in vintage audio compressors.
* As a VDR voltage dependent resistor in transistor or op-amp oscillators where they can be used in a feedback loop to stabilise the output voltage. The presence of a slight glow at just 2V d.c.indicates that these could be quite suitable for that, in the right circuit.
* Replacement bulb for scale illumination in old tuners, oscilloscopes, and radios etc.
* Replacement bulb for indicators in vintage equipment e.g. the stereo pilot indicator in old tuners where the slower turn-on and turn-off of a filament bulb rather than the instantaneous behaviour of an LED is desired.
The wires on these are bight and shiny so they are easily soldered without scraping. The cold resistance is approximately 43 Ohms. The resistance running at 6V is approximately 375 Ohms.
